Spring is here and it sure feels great to be in Glenwood Springs, Colorado! At GSMS we are very busy as we look at putting the finishing touches on 16-17 and start looking forward to 17-18. We are a school making an exciting transition. Construction is underway and we look forward to a beautiful, more open and safer school facility. (You can find details of this project in a feature from Ms. Decrow elsewhere in this newsletter.) Another big change for us is the opening of Riverview School, which will reduce our enrollment significantly. Finally, as you know, we are joining the network of EL Education schools and will be in a year one cohort group in the Fall. Thanks to all parents who completed our "What kind of school do we want to be?" survey, which has been a key piece of our planning in the three dimensions of student achievement - High Quality Work, Character, and Mastery of Knowledge and Skills. We want all students to feel like an important part of our Cougar Crew and take ownership of active, relevant, challenging learning.
Although change is hard to navigate, next Fall GSMS will be a small, beautiful EL school - and that is exciting news for the whole community! Please keep the following items on your radar as we navigate through our busy Spring:
The PARCC testing window is Monday, April 10 through Thursday, April 20. Details can be found in the newsletter.
Tuesday, April 11 at 6:30 is "rising 9th grade night" at GSHS.
Friday, April 21 from 8:30-9:30 will be an open house for rising 6th grade parents.
Monday, April 24 will be our Awards Programs for the third 9 weeks.
Wednesday, April 26 from 12-1 come and experience a "slice" of EL Education. Take an hour to see what it is like to learn in an EL classroom.
Friday, May 5 from 8:30-9:30 will be a second open house for rising 6th grade parents.
Thursday, May 25 we will invite all 5th graders rising to GSMS for a school tour.
Thanks, as always, for your great support of our school! -jh
