The Fall 2016 Fenceline Competition.
2018-19 is our second year as a member of the EL Education network of schools. This means we are working to ensure that all students master rigorous content, develop positive character and produce high-quality work. Along with the national network of schools, we believe that learning and achievement flourish when students and teachers are engaged in work that is challenging, adventurous and meaningful. EL is not a curriculum so your child will not be “behind” if this is your first year in an EL school. Rather - EL presents a vision for structuring schools that we hope inspires and motivates your child to contribute to a better world. Students in EL schools become leaders of their own learning. What does this mean?
Leaders of their Own Learning
Student Led Conferences
In the fall and in the Spring we will facilitate student-led conferences with Crew Leaders. This is an opportunity for students to verbalize their progress toward meeting Learning Targets in classes. As a parent, think of this as a chance to participate in your child’s academic progress in a meaningful way. Just like you would never miss a soccer game or performance - you don’t want to miss this either!
Celebrations of Learning
Each grade level will have Celebrations of Learning as culminating events of expedition work. Parents and community members will have the chance to participate in the learning progress and see both high-quality final products and documentation of the learning process.
Beautiful Spaces and Documentation Panels
When you visit we hope you find our environment welcoming and friendly and beautiful and conducive to learning. As we put students in charge of their own learning you will see public displays of the learning process with multiple drafts, Learning Targets, and short descriptions.
